Messi Accused Of Disrespecting PSG After Champions League Exit
11 March, 2023
Lionel Messi has been accused of failing to show respect for Paris Saint-Germain after the team's exit from the UEFA Champions League this week.
Ex-PSG winger Jerome Rothen, who has criticised the Argentine many times since his free-agent switch to the club in 2021, has once again voiced his frustration with the 35-year-old.
Messi was unable to inspire the French giants in Europe's biggest club competition as they crashed out at the round of 16 stage to Bayern Munich on Wednesday,

leaving Rothen feeling as if the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is not invested in the team. "Messi, we don't want it! He doesn't want to get involved in this club," he told RMC Sport."He says he's 'acclimatised' now, but what are you acclimatised to? You scored 18 goals or 16 assists this year against Angers and Clermont? But in the matches that matter, you disappear.
"The joke is that we saw his matches at the World Cup, I saw his movements, how he invested himself. I don't mind it, considering it's the national team jersey, a separate thing.
"But hey, respect the club in the capital a little, which allows you to maintain a status and salary.
"Only PSG could give him that and, obviously, PSG fell at his feet because they thought Messi was going to make us win [the Champions League]. But he doesn’t win us anything."
Messi's deal in France expires at the end of the season, with rumours suggesting his future at the club is uncertain following this week's disappointment
