Microsoft looks to fill up the void if Google exits Australia
Computer software giant Microsoft is confident its internet search engine Bing can load the gap found in Australia if Google pulls its search more than required payments to press outlets, Primary Minister Scott Morrison said on Monday.

Australia has introduced regulations that would force net giant Google and sociable press heavyweight Facebook to negotiate obligations to domestic press outlets whose content material links drive traffic with their platforms.

Even so, the big technology firms have called the regulations unworkable and said previous month they would withdraw key providers from Australia if the restrictions went ahead. Those offerings include Google's internet search engine, which provides 94 % of the country's search market, according to industry info.

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella has since spoken with Mr Morrison about the brand new rules, and about Monday, Mr Morrison reported the software company was prepared to grow the presence of its search tool Bing, the distant Zero. 2 player.

"I can let you know, Microsoft's pretty confident, when I spoke to Satya," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra, without giving further information on the conversation.

A Microsoft spokeswoman verified the discussion occurred but declined to comment since the company had not been directly mixed up in laws.

"We recognise the importance of a captivating media sector and public fascination journalism in a democracy and we recognise the issues the media sector has confronted over a long time through changing business models and consumer tastes," the spokeswoman said.

A Google representative had not been immediately available for comment.

A time earlier, Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg said Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg experienced requested a gathering over the laws, and that they had talked, but that he would not back off on the change.
