More Flights to Nowhere to Be Offered Amid Growing Demand
23 April, 2021
More flights to nowhere will be accessible amid growing demand from lockdown-fatigued travelers who miss getting aboard a plane and searching for duty-free products amid the drawn-out coronavirus pandemic.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Thursday that seven Korean airlines including Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will give a total of 56 such flights next month, up from 19 this month.
Passengers spend several hours cruising around foreign airspace to allow them to get yourself a glimpse of distant shores out of the window, before landing at the same airport from where they departed.
Since they started in December last year to greatly help cash-strapped airlines, such flights have been limited to Incheon AIRPORT TERMINAL, but they will be accessible at other airfields in Gimpo, Daegu and Gimhae from May.
Some 8,000 passengers took the flights up to now. Each passenger can buy duty-free products up to speed worth up to US$5,000.
Consistent with COVID-19 prevention rules, airlines usually do not provide meals and passengers are separated by empty seats.
