Mustafizur's Rajasthan win last-over thriller
22 September, 2021
A 120-run opening stand between Punjab Kings' KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal wasn't enough as heroics from Mustafizur Rahman and Kartik Tyagi at the death guided Rajasthan Royals to a nail-biting two-run win during the two sides' Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
Bangladesh's ace pacer Mustafizur Rahman started for Rajasthan and the left-armer proved pivotal for his side. Despite remaining wicketless and giving away 30 runs in four overs, Mustafizur bowled a crucial penultimate over that helped Rajasthan snatch a win away from Punjab's grasp.
With just eight required off the final two overs, Mustafizur, the ever-reliable, gave just four singles in the penultimate over before Tyagi conceded just one and picked up the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda in final over.
Defending a total of 185, Rajasthan restricted Punjab to 183 for four in 20 overs. Opener Yashaswi Jaiswal (49) was the top scorer for the Royals while Mahipal Lomor contributed with a 17-ball 43.
For Punjab, left-arm Medium pacer Arshdeep Singh (5/32) and Mohammed Shami (3/21) shared eight wickets between them.
Punjab were off to a flying start during their chase as skipper KL Rahul (49) and Mayank Agarwal (67) stitched a 120-run stand.
Nicholas Pooran made 32 but Tyagi did not let Punjab score the required four runs from the last over despite having six wickets in hand
