Apple has designated the original 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro as a “vintage” product. No, that doesn’t mean it’s only a hipster buy now. What it actually means is that, if you still own one, it’s going to be a lot more troublesome to get it repaired now.

In a post on its support forum, the company detailed all the devices that are now vintage, meaning Apple, and its Authorized Service Providers are not obliged to provide service or parts anymore. Yep, basically don’t go running to an Apple store when your MacBook Pro kicks the bucket.

This is standard practice for Apple, where all its products gain vintage status five years after they launched. The only exception is where local laws demand Apple provide support for a longer period. Any products that are older than seven years are furthermore deemed obsolete. So, what happens if you still use the 2012 Retina MacBook Pro. Well, you can still get in touch with Apple’s support team for software troubleshooting, but any hardware problems are their prerogative to fix. The 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro however hasn’t yet been designated vintage, so you still have time to get yours fixed. But don’t expect things to stay that way too long.
