Phoenix 'perfect meet' for black, white vegan docu

Joaquin Phoenix's most current film isn't a simple watch -- and given its stark anti-meat agenda, it is not designed to be. The 'Joker' superstar and vegan activist executive-manufactured 'Gunda,' a stripped-down, black-and-white movie providing intimate portraits of a cast of adorable farmyard animals.  The film has no narration, dialogue or plot. But as viewers get to know Gunda the Norwegian pig and her litter of squealing newborn piglets living their each day lives, their inevitable fate looms.

'The lifestyle of piglets is obvious. They become sausages,' explained director Victor Kossakovsky. 'But Gunda, she started to be so prominent... so many persons stopped eating meat (as a result of film) that who owns the farm decided she'll live before end of her days. 'So at least one pig is definitely alive following this.' Phoenix and Kossakovsky will become hoping their documentary -- introduced Friday -- could save a lot more. 

The pair was introduced after Phoenix delivered an emotionally charged acceptance speech at February's Oscars ceremony. The superstar decried how humans 'look eligible for artificially inseminate a cow... so when she offers birth we steal her baby, despite the fact that her cries of anguish happen to be unmistakable.' Crew customers of Kossakovsky -- accustomed to hearing him deliver similar speeches each morning on set -- promptly phoned the director to ask if he previously written Phoenix's script.

'No, I'd by no means talked to him,' recalled a chuckling Kossakovsky, whose producers therefore screened 'Gunda' for Phoenix.Phoenix recalled last week how he was 'as a result moved' and had 'hardly ever had an experience that can compare with this.'The actor promptly phoned Kossakovsky and told him: 'Finally someone managed to get -- someone showed how animals happen to be.''He was immediately portion of the team... it had been such a great meet,' Kossakovsky told AFP.
