Priyanka Chopra to receive Unicef humanitarian award

Unicef Ambassador Priyanka Chopra has been honoured with a Unicef Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award, which she will recieve at the charity's Snowflake Ball in New York City this December.
The Quantico actress announced the news on both her Instagram and Twitter pages.
"So incredibly humbled. Thank you Unicef USA for honouring me with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award at the Unicef Snowflake Ball in December," she wrote on Instagram. "My work with Unicef on behalf of all the world's children means everything to me ... Here’s to peace freedom and the right to education."
Chopra is has been a Unicef Ambassador since 2010, when she started working with the charity to promote child and adolescent rights, in India in particular. She has since worked on projects around the world, visiting South Africa, Bangladesh and the Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees in Jordan, to name just three.
n May this year she visited Ethiopia, where she shone a spotlight on Unicef's work to protect refugee children and their right to quality education.
Among the campaigns she has worked on are India's Dare to Care campaign, which demands rights for adolescent girls across the country, and the End Violence against Children campaign, which is raising awareness about different forms of violence.
Of her support for children's causes in India, she says: "Children are the future of our country and ensuring a safe and healthy environment along with appropriate opportunities to blossom is key to a brighter future for these children as well as our country.
"I am glad to be associated with Unicef and its various programmes that aim at empowering the children and adolescents. I strongly advocate that we need to give these children more opportunities to grow in their life. I personally feel that our regular efforts in empowering the adolescent girls will contribute to the growth of our country."
The Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award is named in honour of Danny Kaye, who was an American actor and entertainer that worked closely with Unicef until his death in 1987. Unicef Supporters, Marjolein and Ewout Steenbergen, will receive the Spirit of Compassion Award on the same night.
