'Real Have Enough Money To Sign Mbappe & Haaland'
15 September, 2021
Real Madrid have enough money to sign both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland next season, according to LaLiga president Javier Tebas.
Los Blancos had a few bids for the France star rejected by Paris Saint-Germain in the last week of the latest transfer window, with the French outfit reportedly rejecting a final €220 million (R3.6 billion) offer on deadline day.
The Spanish giants are expected to make another move for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner next year, but they have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund's rising star Haaland, who has already netted five goals in four Bundesliga appearances this season.
LaLiga chief Tebas has now claimed Los Blancos are capable of getting both forwards, but also criticised the way the transfer market operates in France.
"They [Real Madrid] have sold €200 million worth of players. They have enough money to sign both [Kylian] Mbappe and [Erling] Haaland together. They have not lost money. On top of that, they have sold assets," he told Cadena COPE.
"What is not understandable is that someone who loses €400 million, is spending €500 million on wages and can still reject offers like the one for Mbappe. The rules in France are failing, they are hurting the European market. The UEFA system is wrong.
"We are going backwards from the way it should be. Investors must be brought in, but not with unlimited contributions and constant losses. This would not be allowed in another sector.
"They prefer to win the Champions League and lose a billion euros. That way they keep their fans happy because they have won the Champions League, but you have ruined football. It's very dangerous."
