Rescue teams found in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province searched for survivors in Thursday (Feb 25) after a landslide within an illegal gold mining place killed at least three people, with an increase of feared dead, disaster officials said.
Teams made up of police, military and the neighborhood disaster agency deployed major machinery to greatly help the search, with at least 15 survivors found by Thursday, according to the provincial disaster agency.
The landslide occurred on Wednesday evening in the village of Buranga after days and nights of heavy rain, with at least five persons still missing, Andi Sembiring of the provincial disaster mitigation said in a statement.
Native media said dozens could be missing.
The quantity of victims could be higher than what has been recorded so far, said Fatmawati, a search and rescue official in the provincial capital Palu, who goes by one name.
