22 January, 2018
Robi yesterday introduced humanoid robots with artificial intelligence as customer care attendants, as part of a plan to provide better services without any human interaction.
The second largest mobile operator gave a demo of the services to be provided by the five “Robi-servicebots” at a ceremony at Robi experience centre at its corporate office in Dhaka.
The robots are private cloud enabled, reads a press statement released by the operator.
The private cloud system, which is available on the App Store and Google Play, will allow users to take direct control of Robi-servicebots with their personal mobile devices, the operator said.
With the system, Robi will get different services, including advanced AI calculations along with user management, communications support, remote hardware control and data storage, it said.
The operator has worked closely with a high-tech research institution to float the AI platform, according to the statement.
The robots are the culmination of years of research into artificial intelligence, machine learning and machine vision recognition, the operator said.
“The introduction of artificial intelligence powered Robi-servicebots clearly shows that Robi is leading the transformation journey towards becoming a truly digital company in the industry,” Robi CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said.
As a customer-centric company, the operator is very happy to have the robots which will boost the company's capacity to provide customers with better services, he said.
“We believe this technology will also help the entire service sector to reinvent itself to serve the citizens of digital Bangladesh in the near future.”
Different companies have started using AI-based and robotic services to ensure better services and reduce the cost of doing business, a top official of the operator said.
Robi also plans to serve other organisations with the state-of-the-art technology on commercial basis.
Robi's Head of Information Technology Asif Naimur Rashid, Chief Corporate and People Officer Matiul Islam Nowshad and Chief Digital Services Officer Shihab Ahmad were also present.
