Mumbai Indians have retained Rohit Sharma for the upcoming edition in 2018.
However, it is learnt that the man offered to take a cut in pay so that he was retained.
The team management paid Rs 15 crore for his services, but he could have got as much as Virat Kohli who secured Rs 17 crore.
"Rohit is a leader not just on field but off it too. We have seen him dropping to No 3 or lower down the batting order at times only to bring balance to the side. And now, his selfless gesture only goes on to proves that he keeps the team's priority over self," said a source close to the Times of India.
The man chose to put the team's interest first and he will be in Mumbai colours when the tournament gets underway.
Rohit led Mumbai Indians to three titles - 2013, 2015 and 2017. They are the only side to have won the crown thrice.
He is currently is South Africa for the ongoing Test series.
