Samsung to Unveil Galaxy S9 in Barcelona Next Month
Samsung's new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, and the company is starting to leak details to stoke the hype.

The S9 and S9 Plus will be the same size as their predecessors at 5.8 and 6.2 inches but have even slimmer bezels to maximize the size of the screen.

They will sport 3D face recognition technology first used in Apple's iPhone X and a super-slow motion camera that can capture fast-moving objects with streak images and was first showcased in Sony's Experia XZ Premium last year.

Samsung wants to make a splash at the MWC to take advantage of rival Apple being embroiled in a battery scandal. Apple faces class-action lawsuits in six countries including Korea after admitting that it intentionally slows down older iPhones when the battery runs down.

Market researchers Strategy Analytics projects Samsung and Apple's global market share at 19.2 and 14.3 percent, with the gap dwindling from 6.5 percent last year to 4.9 percent this year.

Insiders predict that many disillusioned iPhone users will defect, and Samsung would be their likeliest choice of alternative.
