Sanya, a city on the southern end of China’s Hainan Island that boasts several bays with large beach resorts, is hoping to attract 900,000 inbound tourists in the year ahead, seeking a year-on-year rise of 27%, The Paper reported.
Over the first ten months this year, the city has welcomed 646,300 inbound tourists, an increase of 14.75% from a year earlier.
In 2019, Sanya also plans to add more flights to Novosibirsk and Seoul, to tap into popular tourist regions.
It also plans to explore new tourism markets and open new routes to Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Manila, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
Chen Tiejun, deputy governor of Sanya, said the government should actively explore and integrate resources such as culture, science and technology, sports, events and exhibitions to create a batch of new tourism products catering to new and growing demands.
