See sky-high cyclists whizz across a Dubai rooftop
03 November, 2019
As the Dubai Fitness Challenge rolls closer to its third week, Emirates invited four cyclists to test their biking skills on the roof of the Emirates Group Headquarters.
Four of UAE Team Emirates accepted the challenge and headed 10 floors up to the top of the airline's headquarters to cycle on the rooftop purpose-built track.
The racetrack stretches around 800 metres and runs parallel to Dubai International Airport, where many Emirates aircraft were landing or taking off just across the street at DXB Terminal 3.
Alexander Kristoff, Tadej Pogacar, Diego Ulissi and Jasper Phillipsen, all part of UAE Team Emirates, cycled on the roof. The cyclists regularly reach speeds well above 30 kilometres per hour, but up on the roof, speeds were capped at 20 kilometres per hour, for safety reasons, said Emirates.
With speeds curtailed, the foursome took to showing off some of their cycling moves as they pedalled across the track, spinning and performing stunts.
Emirates and UAE Team Emirates have been working together since 2017 as part of Emirates mission to help bring the UAE to the world stage of cycling.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge ends on Saturday, November 16.
