Singapore to launch segregated travelling lane for organization travellers from all countries
15 December, 2020
Singapore will start a fresh segregated travel lane targeted at organization travellers on short-term stays, Minister for Trade and Sector Chan Chun Sing announced on Tuesday (Dec 15).
The travel lane, or the Connect@Singapore initiative, will be open to a “limited number” of business, official and high monetary value travellers from all countries who are staying in Singapore for 14 days, said the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in another press release.
Applications for the segregated travel lane will start in the center of January 2021, and Singapore can get the primary travellers to reach from the next half of January, it again added.
“Global travel, especially global business travel has been severely influenced by the necessity for quarantine measures, and several people in several countries cannot meet the other person for business activities, reported Mr Chan in an online media conference.
“The theory is for business persons to enter into Singapore for up to a period of 2 weeks. During these 2 weeks, they will undergo the required routine medical checks to supply themselves the assurance they are safe and to present the assurance to their meeting partners that they are safe.”
For his or her whole stay, travellers under the segregated travel lane will be housed within dedicated facilities, undergo frequent testing and observe all prevailing secure management measures, said MTI.
The travellers must stay of their pre-declared travel group of up to five travellers within the segregated facility, and so are not allowed to mingle with other travellers. They'll also have to follow all prevailing national secure management measures, and work with Trace Together and Safe and sound Entry.
At the segregated facilities, the travellers should be able to conduct meetings with local visitors and with other traveller teams with safe management methods in destination to separate segregated travel lane travellers from other individuals, said MTI.
“For instance, while travellers will be permitted to talk with local visitors, you will have floor-to-ceiling dividers separating travellers from native tourists,” the ministry added.
Travellers will also need to present a good valid negative COVID-19 polymerase chain response (PCR) check before leaving their home country, and have another PCR test after arriving in Singapore.
While in Singapore, they will take antigen rapid lab tests on days 3, 5, 7 and 11 after their arrival while they stay static in Singapore.
MTI has been dealing with Connect@Changi on its possible appointment as a segregation facility under the segregated travel lane.
More segregated conveniences will be appointed within the next couple of weeks, said MTI. Different operators thinking about serving as a segregated center can post their proposals through the Singapore Tourism Table (STB) by Dec 31, with more information on the application to be produced by STB soon.
In a separate news release, Temasek announced the development of a short-stay facility that could facilitate the business exchanges between international travellers and Singapore residents.
Located by Singapore EXPO Halls 7 and 8, the 1st stage of the Connect@Changi pilot short-stay facility is going to launch in the 1st quarter of 2021, stated Temasek.
The first phase will see a lot more than 670 premium guest rooms and about 170 meeting rooms that accommodate small to large meetings of about four to 22 attendees. When totally constructed in mid-2021, the facility could have more than 1,300 guest bedrooms and about 340 meeting bedrooms, it said.
