Six Die In Stampede Outside Stadium In Cameroon
It has been reported that at least six people died in a stampede outside of the stadium that hosted Cameroon's 2-1 round of 16 win over Comoros at the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night.

According to Sky Sports, there were at least six casualties in Yaounde when a stampede occurred as fans attempted to get access to the Olembe Stadium to watch the Indomitable Lions take on Comoros.

Following the incident, officials at the nearby Messassi hospital reportedly said that about 40 people were hurt from the crush.

"CAF is aware of the incident that took place at Olembe Stadium during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations fixture between hosts Cameroon and Comoros tonight, 24 January 2022," a statement from the Confederation of African Football read.

"CAF is currently investigating the situation and trying to get more details on what transpired. We are in constant communication with Cameroon government and the Local Organising Committee. "Tonight, the CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe sent the General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, to visit the supporters in hospital in Yaounde."

It is speculated that about 50 000 people tried to enter the stadium, which can host up to 60 000, although the ground was only set to filled to 80% capacity due to Covid-19 regulations.
