South Korea confirms 174 new COVID-19 situations, total to 6,767
South Korea on Saturday (Mar 7) reported 174 additional coronavirus circumstances from late Friday, taking the national tally to 6,767, the Korea Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (KCDC) said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 44 from past due Friday, the KCDC added. 

The quantity of cases of the contagious disease has spiked in South Korea since mid-February when a 61-year-old woman known as "Patient 31" tested positive after attending religious services at a branch of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in the southeastern city of Daegu.

South Korea has reported the best total of coronavirus situations outside the house China, and around 60 countries and areas have imposed travel bans or quarantine on arrivals from the world's 12th-largest economy.

More than 90 % of South Korea's instances are found in the southern metropolis of Daegu and the neighbouring North Gyeongsang province.

A lot of the country's attacks are from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, a religious sect typically condemned as a good cult, one of whose members attended at least four providers before being diagnosed.

Scores of situations - from K-pop concerts to athletics seasons - have already been cancelled or postponed more than the contagion, with institution and kindergarten breaks extended by 3 weeks nationwide.

On Friday, South Korea explained it would suspend visas and visa waivers for Japan in response to Tokyo's private travel restrictions on Koreans, as fears over the coronavirus reignited a feud between the neighbours dating back again to before World War Two.

Dr Mike Ryan, leading emergencies expert of the World Wellbeing Group (WHO), told a briefing in Geneva on Friday that both Japan and South Korea should give attention to managing the epidemic and keeping lives, but not on "a political spat over travel around restrictions."

The WHO said on Friday all countries should get containing the coronavirus outbreak their priority.
