Taiwan says relations with US elevated to 'global partnership'
The US lifting of restrictions on interactions with Taiwanese officials is a "big thing", Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said on Monday (Jan 11), adding that the island's relations with the US have been elevated to a "global partnership".

US Secretary of Point out Mike Pompeo announced the lifting of restrictions on Saturday, in the waning days and nights of the Trump administration before Joe Biden assuming the US presidency on Jan 20.

China, which promises democratic Taiwan seeing that its territory, has yet to formally respond, however the move will probably increase Sino-US tensions due to Biden prepares to dominate.

"This is a large thing for the elevation of Taiwan-US relations," Wu told reporters, expressing his "sincere gratitude" to the US government. "Taiwan-US relations have already been elevated to a worldwide partnership. The overseas ministry will not let our guard down and hope to continue to raise the development of Taiwan-US ties."

Although america, like most countries, does not have any official ties with Taiwan, it really is bound by laws to supply it with the methods to defend itself, and under President Donald Trump has ramped up arms revenue and sent senior officials to Taipei.

On Wednesday, US ambassador to the US, Kelly Craft, will get to Taipei for a three-day check out, which China has denounced.

Wu said both he and President Tsai Ing-wen would meet Craft on Thursday.

The topic for the visit is to go over how exactly to promote Taiwan's international participation, he added.

Craft's go to is highly symbolic, due to Taiwan is not a member of the US nor most global bodies because of China's objections. Beijing says simply it has the right to speak for Taiwan on the worldwide stage.

Taiwan says only its democratically elected authorities has this right.
