Tourism chief Udaya Nanayakkara ordered to “go home”
11 January, 2018
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Chairman Udaya Nanayakkara on Wednesday vacated his post on the orders of Tourism Minister John Amaratunga.
“I have no intention of going back to office,” he told TimesOnline a few minutes ago.
The letter by the minister directing his resignation was sent on Monday January 8 to Mr. Nanayakkara which also indicated that this decision was taken in line with government plans to restructure the organization.
He noted, “I only expedited the 2020 plan of the government” to conduct the digital marketing campaign scheduled to kick off in March and the subsequent global promotion campaign.
“Maybe he (the minister) has a different agenda,” or else he queried why when everything was worked out and ready to take off would the minister want his resignation. The latest development is likely to further delay Sri Lanka's long-awaited destination marketing campaign.
