Tourists spent US$15 billion on first day of National Day holiday

On October 1, the first day of China’s seven-day National Day holiday, the country received an estimated 122 million domestic tourists, an increase of 7.54% from a year earlier, according to the China Tourism Academy, China News Services reported.
Meanwhile, domestic tourism revenue reached 103 billion yuan (US$15 billion) on the first day, an increase of 7.19%.
In Hubei, a province in Central China which has 26 famous scenic sites, 485,100 tourist visits were recorded, achieving a comprehensive income of 73.49 million yuan, a rise of 36.57% and 37.88% respectively.
Chongqing, a municipality in southwestern China, is also a popular choice.
On the first day of the holiday, it received 4.762 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 10.6% year-on-year. Total tourism revenue hit 1.918 billion yuan, a rise of 24.7%.
