Truck landed on coach track a minute before deadly Taiwan crash
The truck that was mixed up in fatal Taiwanese express train crash the other day, killing 50 people, slid onto the tracks only around about a minute prior to the accident happened, the federal government said on Tuesday (Apr 6), as it released dramatic footage of the impact.

The packed train holding almost 500 travellers and crew slammed right into a truck near to the eastern city of Hualien over Friday, causing it to derail and the front and middle parts to crumple. It had been the island's worst rail accident in seven decades.

The truck had slid down a sloping road from a building site onto the tracks just outside a tunnel. Officials suspect the truck's brakes were not properly applied and so are investigating the manager of the website.

Young Hong-tsu, chairman of Taiwan's Transportation Safety Board, said that they had reconstructed the way the truck had finished up about the rails, tracking its movements straight down the dirt street before it slipped away a bank and landed over the railway line, its front side end facing the oncoming train.

Little showed recovered footage extracted from within the driver's cabin as he desperately tried out to decelerate before striking the truck in the access to the tunnel, triggering the teach to derail.

"How much period was there between this truck sliding onto the monitor and it hitting the Taroko express? Truly it had been only a little bit more than one minute," he said, discussing the name of the coach.

Small said the driver had virtually no time to properly slow the coach and avoid the accident as he previously simply seconds to react, the truck getting on a bend rather than visible until it had been too late.

In a screenshot from the footage, the truck is evidently experienced straddling the track, with leaves and branches protruding of its front from when it slid down the wooded bank.

The victims included two Americans and one French national.

Little said Taiwanese authorities had been in touch with the united states National Transportation Safety Board and France's transfer safety human body to see if they were interested in helping with the investigation.
