Trump has modification of center, Kaepernick 'absolutely' deserves a go

Donald Trump is suddenly a fan of Colin Kaepernick. 

The American president said Wednesday he "absolutely" is and only giving the former SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers quarterback another chance in the NFL. The comment is normally in sharp contrast to his 2017 stance, when he informed a political rally that players like Kaepernick who kneel during the US anthem will be "sons of bitches" and really should come to be expelled from the league.

"If he deserves it, he should," Trump told a Washington, DC tv set station when asked if Kaepernick should obtain another shot. 

 

"If he has the playing potential. He started off great, and then he didn't wrap up very great regarding a player. He was terrific in his rookie calendar year. I believe he was very very good in his second calendar year. And then something happened. Hence his participating in wasn't up to snuff.

"The answer is completely I'd. As far as kneeling, I'd like to see him receive another shot."

Trump's about-face comes while a good wave of protests against law enforcement brutality and racism continued over the United States following death of George Floyd, a black man, found in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.

Just three weeks hence, Trump waded back to the anthem debate, tweeting that he believed players should stand during the song.  

"There are other activities you can protest, however, not our Great American Flag -- NO KNEELING!"

 

An eye in Kaepernick 

Trump's latest comments come two days after commissioner Roger Goodell encouraged teams to sign Kaepernick.

"If he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it's gonna have a team to create that decision," Goodell explained. "But I welcome that, support a golf club making that decision, and encourage them to achieve that."

Kaepernick hasn't commented on Goodell's assertion. 

Kaepernick filed a good grievance with the NFL found in 2017 alleging the owners conspired to hold him out of your league after he sparked a kneeling campaign to protest treatment of black People in america. In February 2019, he settled for an undisclosed amount of money. 

That same month, multiple US media outlets reported Kaepernick was in talks with the Alliance of American Football in regards to a job but wanted a guaranteed $20 million per season. At that time, quarterbacks were making typically $250,000 a yr.

Last November, Kaepernick balked at an NFL-arranged workout for every 32 teams and instead decided at the last minute to stage his own on an Atlanta-area high school field. The event was attended by scouts from eight teams but did not result in employment.

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL in a number of years. In 12 games with the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers in 2016, he completed 59.2 percent of his passes, threw 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. 

A second-round draft pick out in 2011, Kaepernick started 58 games over six seasons with the 49ers and passed for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. 

Through the 2012 season, he led San Francisco to Very Bowl XLVII, a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Also about Wednesday, the LA Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said they are keeping track of Kaepernick.

"It could be crazy to not possess him on your workout list," Lynn said.

Lynn added Kaepernick "fits the style of quarterback for the machine that we're going to be running. I'm incredibly confident and pleased with the three quarterbacks that I've but you can't ever have too many persons waiting on the runway."
