“The new system establishes an integrated infrastructure to facilitate [the] assessment of PPEs and be sure they are up to the set standards,” said Abdulla Al Maeeni, brain of the standardisation and metrology section at the ministry.

“It also helps boost the national market by enabling Emirati makers to operate in accordance with international best practice, rendering them more competitive found in regional and international marketplaces.”

Global demand for PPE has skyrocketed since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year, with face masks and gloves taken into consideration effective in protecting against the pass on of the infection.

UAE companies are actually also seeking to enter the sector and produce new products.

In May, Mubadala Investment Company announced its partnership with industrial company Honeywell to create N95 face masks as part of its drive to nurture the UAE’s production base and tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We will job to develop an idea to implement the brand new system in co-ordination and co-operation with the relevant authorities in the UAE, " Mr Al Maeeni said.

"Relative to the provisions of the job, it will not be allowed to offer, trade or perhaps market any registered items without acquiring the UAE conformity certificate from the Ministry of Sector and Advanced Technology."
