What’s up with WhatsApp? Facebook fails while Twitter triumphs
04 July, 2019
Facebook apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger are experiencing technical glitches the world over since late Wednesday evening. Countless users are facing issues while downloading images, as well as voice messages on the world’s most popular messaging platform — WhatsApp; which has been frozen for hours. While media wasn’t going through, sending or receiving text messages faced no such issues.
Instagram was also thrown into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons where people the world over experienced issues while uploading images. First spotted in India, this issue rapidly spread globally with people taking to Twitter to report that the issue was witnessed across the US, Europe, and Africa as well. In India, it was observed that while the chat on WhatsApp and Stories on Instagram were active, transferring any form of media including audio and images were frozen. This issue is reportedly due to Facebook’s servers that run all these services.
Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp users are experiencing logging in issues, sharing/downloading content and using these apps in general. While many have taken to Twitter to voice their discontent, a sizable number have started making jokes on the same and creating memes about how people are flocking to the short messaging platform since their favourite apps are down.
One user Tweeted, “Twitter is by far the default app we all run to when something's up... #whatsappdown.” Another said, “Whatsapp: Dead, Instagram: Me too, Facebook: So do I guys, Twitter: Come here, baby!" A Twitter user got a bit sentimental and said, “All through my stay on Twitter, Twitter has never been down ... Twitter is home." While another said, “Rt if you come to Twitter just to confirm WhatsApp is down?”
As per a report by variety, this issue is global and meanwhile, in India, the WhatsApp Chat interface and the Instagram Stories are working as though there was no problem across the board. When trying to download pictures on WhatsApp, a notification saying, "Can't download. Please ask that it be resent to you," pops up on the screen.
While downloading media continues to be an issue, sending of files is still active.
