05 September, 2018
Xiaomi’s Mi MIX series of smartphones introduced the concept of a fullscreen display with minimal bezels. With the market catching u on the trend and introducing their own take on the concept with pop-up cameras and tiny notches, Xiaomi is prepping to regain its lead with the upcoming Mi MIX 3. Xiaomi’s Donovan sung has been giving us a sneak peek of the device via social media and the latest photo confirms a performance-oriented feature — 5G connectivity.
In one of his recent Tweets, Sung shared the photo of the Mi MIX 3 being tested for network speeds, with an adjoining caption stating — Does anyone see anything interesting? A closer look at the phone reveals that Xiaomi will introduce 5G connectivity from its stable with the Mi MIX 3 — zoom on the top corner of the status bar and the 5G icon beside the network icon is visible. Behind the phone, the panels on the test equipment also show testing of various 5G bands on the device.
As for the device, a previous photo shared by Sung revealed the slider mechanism hiding the earpiece and the front camera. This time, the slider is in a closed position, which reveals the extremely thin bezels all around, similar to the Vivo NEX. The handset is seemingly running on MIUI 9, although we expect Xiaomi to unveil it with MIUI 10 in the coming weeks.
The Mi MIX 3 is expected to be unveiled with a Snapdragon 845 chipset along with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It could feature fast wireless charging and a pair of capable dual cameras for the rear.
