Yosozumi wins women’s park skateboarding gold
Sakura Yosozumi won the gold medal in women’s park skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.

Skateboarding was newly added to the Olympics for the Tokyo Games.

Yosozumi became the first Olympic champion in this event, held at Ariake Urban Sports Park. This is the third gold medal in skateboarding for Japan, and the 20th for Japan at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the preliminary round, Yosozumi was ranked fourth overall and advanced to the final of eight skateboarders. In the finals, she won the competition with a score of 60.09 points in the first of her three runs.

Kokona Hiraki, 12, won silver with a score of 59.04 on her second run, while Misugu Okamoto finished fourth with a score of 53.58 on her second run as well.

Yosozumi, a 19-year-old Wakayama Prefecture native, is the world’s 2nd ranked park skateboarder after winning the 2018 World Championships and Asian Games.

In park, skateboarders compete on a complex course filled with curves, some resembling bowls. They are judged on the difficulty of their moves, their speed and skills, originality and overall flow.Speech
