With Kaizer Chiefs recently announcing the launch of a senior participant, here are 12 other footballers who had their contracts terminated, some for incredibly strange reasons.
Siphelele Ntshangase joined up with Chiefs from Baroka FC on 2018, but didn't make his tag at Naturena and has been released for free by the South African giants.
With the 27-year-old midfielder set for a new journey, we recall other times players were produced by clubs, focusing largely on European football and two other high-profile cases in Mzansi.
In December 2015, sole hours after announcing his arrival at the club, Barcelona revealed that that they had cancelled Sergi Guardiola's contract after reportedly discovering offensive tweets he previously made about the Spanish giants and Catalonia.
The Blaugrana were said to have discovered that Guardiola built provocative tweets about Barcelona and the spot in which it is in 2013, although the player insisted it had been a friend who took his phone and posted those damaging comments as a tale.
A calendar year earlier, West Bromwich Albion sacked superstar striker Nicolas Anelka after some objective celebration of his was alleged to have had anti-Semitic implications.
After being punished by the English Soccer Association, the Frenchman claimed he previously cancelled his contract in England, comments which were later on deemed untrue by the club, who swiftly parted ways with the ex-Real Madrid and Arsenal man.
In 2012, former Portugal worldwide Luis Boa Morte had his manage Orlando Pirates cancelled after nearly impressing up to many thought he could have in South Africa.
Four big labels in Europe have previously seen their contracts being terminated this year, including former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa and ex-Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil, with the latter joining Fenerbahce, where his struggles seem to have continued.
The 32-year-old has made only seven appearances for the club since his arrival in Turkey, and is yet to contribute to a goal.
