14 missing after Philippines sea collision

Philippine rescuers were searching on Monday (Jun 29) for 14 persons missing after an area fishing boat collided with a good cargo ship, authorities said.
The boats crashed early Sunday in waters southwest of Manila, capsizing the Philippine angling vessel Liberty 5 off the coast of Occidental Mindoro province.
The captain of the cargo ship Vienna Solid wood, which is registered in Hong Kong, needed help "a couple of hours later" and the vessel had been escorted to territory by the Philippine Coast Guard, said agency spokesman Commodore Armando Balilo.
It had been not immediately sharp if the Liberty 5 had sunk.
Philippine authorities deployed aircraft and ships in the search for the missing people, who included 12 Filipino crew members and two passengers.
Solid ocean currents interrupted the explore Sunday evening, but functions resumed early on Monday.
The Philippines includes a poor shipping safety record, with scores dying in mishaps at sea every year, usually aboard wooden-hulled outriggers that approach people in one small island to another.
There are also incidents allegedly linked with maritime disputes.
In June this past year, a Chinese angling trawler hit a Filipino boat near Reed Lender, an area of the South China Ocean within Manila's territory but which is also claimed by Beijing.
Vietnamese fishermen rescued 22 Filipinos from then on collision, which remaining President Rodrigo Duterte facing accusations of defending Beijing.
Duterte has tried to downplay the case, calling it an "accident" and accepting Beijing's give to conduct a good joint investigation.
