ADGM adopts new info protection regulations
Abu Dhabi Global Marketplace has enacted a fresh set of rules to ensure the protection of personal and confidential info.

THE INFO Protection Regulations 2021, that have replaced existing guidelines used in 2015 are designed to be “business friendly”.

They were implemented after a public consultation workout received positive feedback, ADGM said in a statement on Sunday.

“ADGM is extremely very happy to introduce such a good world-class data cover framework that protects personal info, while as well remaining balanced and business-friendly,” Dhaher Al Mheiri, leader of the ADGM registration authority, said.

“These fresh regulations position the ADGM as a regional leader on data protection.”

To draft the new guidelines, ADGM benchmarked global standards and best practices. It determined the European Union’s General Data Coverage Regulation (which arrived to effect in May 2018) provided the top rated international standard and ideal practice for robust data protection legislation.

Beneath the new framework, ADGM will establish an unbiased office of data safeguard that'll be headed by Sami Mohammed. Mr Mohammed, who has over 18 years’ encounter in both the public and individual sectors in the UAE, possesses been appointed as ADGM's commissioner of data protection for a short term of four years.

“Through applying the new regulations, entities could be assured of the highest standards of data security, in line with overseas best practice,” Mr Mohammed said.

“On behalf of the team … I anticipate working with all stakeholders to make sure personal data is processed relative to the regulations,” he added.

Starting from Sunday, ADGM features proposed a transition amount of 12 months pertaining to current entities and half a year for new firms to adhere to new data regulations.
