Atletico winning function interrupted despite Suarez's double strike
Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez continued his deadly run of form by scoring twice on Monday but Celta Vigo debutant Facundo Ferreyra had the ultimate say in a 2-2 draw which interrupted the Liga leaders' eight-video game winning streak.

Atletico dropped things for the first time since losing to Real Madrid on Dec. 12 however now have 51 from 20 games and lead second-put Barcelona and champions Real, who are third, by eight details with a match at hand on both teams.

Atletico were missing six players because of COVID-19, including record signing Joao Felix, plus they fell behind found in the 13th minute to a good well worked target from Celta when Santi Mina ghosted in to the box unmarked to turn home a cross from Hugo Mallo.

Celta, who are without a league win found in 2021, should have added to their lead but Suarez equalised for Atletico on the stroke of halftime, sliding directly into meet a good Marcos Llorente cross.

The Uruguayan scored an identical goal to place Atletico in advance in the 50th minute, this time around connecting with a Renan Lodi ball to score his seventh goal in four group games.

The strike increased Suarez's lead at the top of the Liga goalscoring charts with 16 goals, three before former Barcelona team mate Lionel Messi in second.

Celta had faded found in the second half after a solid display prior to the break but pulled level in the 89th through Argentine forward Ferreyra, who have had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes after signing up for the club earlier this month due to a free agent.

"We possess to try to win home games such as this but we weren't comfortable at all on the first half," stated Atletico captain Koke.

"We've conceded a lot of goals in the last few game titles but we have an excellent squad, great players and we're going to keep thinking about the next game and today we're concentrating on our next video game with Granada."

Celta goalscorer Mina said his area earned "an excellent point" but lamented not construction on the excellent start.

"We've a bittersweet feeling because they equalised when we had total control of the overall game but we kept fighting and placed believing on ourselves," he said.

Celta, who've drawn their last 3 games, are 10th on 26 points.
