Automakers Recall 45,000 Cars over Defects

Some 45,000 domestic and imported cars will be recalled because of defective parts, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Wednesday.
Hyundai is recalling 22,415 midsize Sonatas, 1,941 Grandeur large sedans and 757 GV80 luxury sedans, while affiliate Kia must fix 3,758 K5 sedans because of software problems that could cause brakes to malfunction.
Another 3,247 GV80 luxury sedans are being recalled over glitches that cause indicators to fail that alert drivers to problems in lane-changing functions.
Owners can get their cars fixed cost-free at Hyundai and Kia service centers starting April 20.
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 8,163 GLK 220 CDI 4MATIC and 11 other models equipped with Takata-made airbags that may explode and hurl shrapnel into drivers. Free replacements can be found at Mercedes-Benz service centers from Thursday.
Also, 4,686 Toyotas like the Lexus RX450h were found to have defective fuel pumps that could cause engines to avoid running during driving. Free repairs will be accessible at Toyota service centers starting late this month.
Owners of the afflicted vehicles will be alerted via text and told how exactly to have their vehicles repaired. Those who spent their own money to really have the glitches fixed can seek a refund.
