BMW Recalls More Cars
BMW is recalling up to 99,000 cars to replace intake manifolds. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Wednesday that it ordered the German carmaker to recall affected cars after a month-long investigation into the spontaneous combustions of BMWs.

Investigators pinpointed the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) module as well as intake manifold of BMWs as the causes of the fires.

EGRs recirculate exhaust gases from diesel cars to filter out pollutants, while intake manifolds are passageways for the recirculated exhaust.

According to BMW's recall plan, 20,000 cars that were already recalled last year as part of the first round but still suffered from leaking EGRs will have their intake manifolds replaced.

Another 79,000 whose EGRs had been replaced will undergo another check to see if additional replacement is necessary.
