Boris Johnson making 'great progress' in virus recovery seeing that UK death toll nears 10,000
Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson was building "very good improvement" on Saturday found in his recovery in hospital from coronavirus, officials said, seeing as the country's deaths toll from the disease approached the grim milestone of 10,000.

The 55-year-old head was spending his second full day trip of intensive care at London's St Thomas' Medical center, where he has been able to take short walks between periods of rest, according to Downing Road.

"The Prime Minister continues to make very great progress," a No. 10 spokeswoman said.

News of his improvement contrasted with the most recent official figures showing Britain recorded nearly 1,000 daily COVID-19 deaths for the next consecutive day -- among the worst rates globally.

Medical ministry announced another 917 coronavirus hospital patients had died in the most recent 24-hour period, down from the toll on Friday but nonetheless the country's second highest yet.

An 11-year-good old was among the victims, according to England's National Health and wellbeing Service (NHS).

It brings the full total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Uk hospitals to 9,875, as the amount of confirmed cases in the country climbed by 5,234 to 78,991.

That is considered to reflect only a good fraction of some of the number of individuals infected because not everyone has been tested for the virus.

"The primary minister continues to create good progress, but these stark statistics highlight the gravity of the national crisis," interior minister Priti Patel told reporters at a daily briefing.

Despite the sobering statistics, Stephen Powis, NHS England's medical director, said there is a "levelling off" in the number of new cases and "the initial signs of a plateauing of individuals who unfortunately need hospitalization".

He credited a good nationwide lockdown introduced on March 23 for halting the virus' spread, but added the mortality charge would be "the final thing" to diminish.

"We are positive that if every person follows the instructions... in that case that will begin to translate within the next weeks into a decrease in the daily deaths," Powis said.

"I'm afraid this year it should be for all those a stay-at-home Easter."

Queen Elizabeth II echoed that in what is thought to be her first pre-recorded Easter address, released by Buckingham Palace on Saturday evening.

"By keeping aside we retain others safe and sound," the 93-year-previous monarch said. "We know that coronavirus won't overcome us."

Her resolute comments came weekly after a rare televised address to the nation in which she told persons to unite to defeat COVID-19.

Johnson is the most high-profile head to have problems with the coronavirus, and his hospitalization is unprecedented for a British prime minister throughout a national emergency in modern times.

He was first admitted Sunday for a good persistent cough and temperature 10 times after self-isolating with the virus. A day later he was transferred to the intensive care product as his state deteriorated.

The Conservative leader kept the machine Thursday evening in "good spirits" and waving at staff "in gratitude", his spokesman has said.

The Mail on Sunday newspaper reported Johnson's friends had revealed he came near death while in intensive care and said he owed his existence to the hospital's medical team.

It remains unclear when he could possibly be discharged from hospital and how quickly he would return to work once out.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been deputizing for Johnson.

The prime minister's spokesman stressed Friday that his recovery was "at an early on stage" and he'd act only "on the advice of his medical team".

SUNLIGHT tabloid reported that Johnson's spirits have been lifted this week by his pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds, who dispatched him "love letters" and scans of their unborn child.

Symonds, who has also suffered from coronavirus symptoms in recent weeks, and the Uk leader experience reportedly not seen one another for nearly per month. Their baby arrives this summer.

Meanwhile, it is also uncertain when Britain may be in a position to lift the stringent sociable distancing regime.

Implemented for a short three weeks, the actions are set for a formal review in a few days and likely to stay in place until at least the finish of the month.
