Britney Spears opens up about traumatic childhood
In her forthcoming autobiography, "The Woman In Me," Britney Spears candidly opens up about her traumatic childhood and the persistent torment she endured from her alcoholic father, Jamie Spears.

The 41-year-old pop icon describes her father as "mean, apathetic, and cold" during her formative years. This abuse extended into her 30s, as Jamie frequently insulted her appearance, often referring to her as "fat" and forcing her to work against her will during her 13-year conservatorship.

Scared of her father
Britney recalled her father's alcohol-fueled outbursts and erratic behavior, confessing that he would drink excessively, causing her great fear, especially when he got behind the wheel.

"Dad drank until he couldn't think. He disappeared from home for several days at a time. And when he was drunk, he got really mean," reads an extract of the book according to The Sun. "The stress of not having any money was compounded by the chaos caused by Dad's extreme mood swings. "I was especially afraid to get in the car with him because he used to talk to himself while driving. I didn't even understand what he said. He seemed to be in his own world."

Britney also suggests that her father's alcoholism may have been a result of suffering abuse from his own father, June Spears, adding a layer of tragedy to the family's history.

She reflects on her confusion as a child about why her father was so unrelentingly harsh and why her efforts were never good enough for him.

"To me, the saddest thing was that I had always just wanted a father who loved me just the way I was - someone who said, 'I love you, period. You can do anything. I would love you forever unconditionally,'" she wrote.
