Chelsea Star Bags 'Perfect' Hat-Trick In Emphatic Win
27 October, 2019
Christian Pulisic scored the perfect hat-trick as Chelsea moved up to fourth spot with a 4-2 triumph over Burnley on Saturday evening.
Frank Lampard made only one change from the Blues' win over Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, with Pulisic taking the place of Callum Hudson-Odoi. Meanwhile, Ashley Barnes replaced the injured Chris Wood in the Burnley line-up and Jack Cork took the place of Robbie Brady among the two changes.
The Clarets had a slow start, opening gaps behind their defence and they were punished in the 20th minute by Pulisic, who gave Chelsea the lead with a low shot past goalkeeper Nick Pope for his first-ever goal for the club.
TheAmerican doubled the visitors' lead on the stroke of half-time with another sweeping strike on the right side of the box that took a deflection off Ben Mee and wrong-footed Pope.
The Blues started the second stanza brightly as Pulisic completed his hat-trick 11 minutes after the break after nodding home a cross fro Mason Mount.
Willian bagged the fourth goal for the visitors two minutes later with a shot from the edge of the box across the face of goal past Pope after being picked out by Tammy Abraham.
After Chelsea had a penalty overturned by the Video Assistant Referee, Jay Rodriguez pulled a goal back for the Clarets with four minutes remaining after unleashing a screamer from range that looped over goalkeeper Kepa.
Dwight McNeil got a second goal back for the hosts three minutes later with a strike from the edge of the box that deflected off Fikayo Tomori. But it was too little too late as the Blues held on to clinch a 4-2 win.
