Fully bezel-less Samsung Galaxy S10, ‘Winner’ foldable smartphone under works
Samsung’s mobile division hasn’t had the most hyped launches this year. The Galaxy S9 couldn’t generate enough interest with its variable aperture camera while the Note 9 received a lukewarm response despite being a very good all-rounder. Considering the hype rivals have been generating with their flagships, Samsung has been rumoured to work its wonders for making the next generation Galaxy S flagships revolutionary.

One of Bloomberg’s latest reports has detailed all the developments at Samsung via an insider, where some of the information about the next generation Galaxy S flagships has been unveiled. The biggest change that Samsung will be embracing is introducing three models under the Galaxy S10 moniker. There will be a standard 5.8-inch Galaxy S10 with curved edges, a bigger Galaxy S10 Plus with almost all the features of the normal S10, and a newer as well as cheaper S10 with a flat screen.

However, the standard Galaxy S10 and the S10 Plus will bring in in-display fingerprint sensor as standard. These two models will also feature a triple camera setup; however, the specifications haven’t been cleared yet. Maybe Samsung could pull off a standard lens + wide angle lens + depth sensor combo similar to the Galaxy A7 (2018).

The sources also mentioned that Samsung will eliminate the forehead and chin from the S10 completely, but won’t embrace the notch like the competition. Instead, Samsung will keep the camera in the centre position, but embedded under the display. The camera could be seen, but the display panel wraps around it to offer a notch-less display. All the other sensors will also be embedded under the display. Samsung is presently experimenting with an S10 prototype that doesn’t feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, which hasn’t been finalised yet.

On the other hand, Samsung’s foldable smartphone will also be ready for unveiling alongside the Galaxy S10s. Codenamed the ‘Winner,’ the smartphone will fold into portrait orientation. The device will flip open similar to flip phones of the past and feature a glossy film used in the world of photography to aid the bending. It won’t feature the in-display fingerprints sensor like the S10 due to technical restraints and could probably only feature a single camera setup. The present prototype is also more than 200 grams heavy, which could lead Samsung to shave off the battery capacity to keep it lighter. Samsung is currently working with Google to develop a custom version of Android that will be able to adapt to the varying form factor of the device.

Since the information comes from someone knowing the internal developments at Samsung, there’s a chance that we could be seeing these state-of-the-art Samsung smartphones at the next Galaxy Unpacked event early in 2019. Keep an eye here for all the latest developments regarding the latest Galaxy flagships.
