Georgia Governor Warns of Shed Careers If SK Ban Is Upheld
The governor of the U.S. status of Georgia features urged President Joe Biden to veto a ruling by the International Trade Commission banning SK Advancement from selling electric auto batteries over a copyright row.

"The livelihood of a large number of Georgians is now in the hands," Governor Brian Kemp said in a letter to Biden.

Previous month, the ITC recommended banning SK from importing, making or selling EV batteries and parts in the U.S. for another 10 years since it stole trade secrets from rival LG Strength Solution.

SK has been building a great EV battery plant in Georgia slated to begin production in 2022, and Biden has until April 11 to veto the ITC ruling that threatens to scupper the program.

Kemp remarked that the plant found in Commerce, Georgia would employ 2,600 people, in the future to rise to 6,000, and the business's US$2.6 billion investment is the biggest by a foreign investor in the state.

LG has already wanted to have up the slack in the event Biden upholds the ruling. LG is "ready to do whatever we are able to to help the persons and personnel of Georgia," LGES CEO Kim Jong-hyun told Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia previous this month. Kim added that LG might even spouse with another company that gets control the plant from SK.

"Multiple investors and makers… will be enthusiastic about the Commerce plant because of increased demand for electric power car or truck batteries," Kim said.

An LG staffer said, "The letter was designed to clarify the actual fact that the circumstances right now was due to SK's theft of technology, while wanting to allay concerns over careers in Georgia."

But an SK spokesman told AP that "it really is simply impossible for someone to acquire an EV battery manufacturing facility and manage it to create batteries acceptable to a significant auto provider." "LG's monopolization of the U.S. battery source chain will only place the U.S. further back in its effort to meet up with China," the spokesman added.

Industry watchers believe LG and SK might both preserve lobbying politicians until Biden can make a decision.

LG already has a single EV battery plant found in Michigan and is building another found in Ohio, and recently announced ideas for two more in the U.S. If the ITC decision is certainly upheld, it could have a free work of the American industry.
