Giorgio Armani to bring his cruise 2021 show to 'luxurious and fascinating' Dubai
Giorgio Armani's eponymous fashion line is bringing its cruise 2021 show to Dubai. The show is expected to take place in April 2020, and will coincide with the reopening of the label's flagship store at The Dubai Mall.

"I'm very happy to be back in Dubai after 10 years, especially on the occasion of the Expo 2020 which will place a great emphasis on the city," Armani, 85, said in a statement. "Dubai is a luxurious and fascinating place with a soul focused on the future, always in pursuit of the imagination."

The show will take place six months before Expo 2020 Dubai kicks off on October 20, 2020. It will also be 10 years since Armani was in Dubai to inaugurate the Armani Hotel Dubai, located in the Burj Khalifa.

This year, Armani hosted its cruise 2020 show at Tokyo’s National Museum, a move that Armani said "reiterated" the brand's bond with the country.

It will not be the first high profile fashion show that has been held in Dubai. In May 2014, Karl Lagerfeld presented Chanel’s cruise 2015 collection on The Island, a private island off Jumeirah.

In March this year, Maria Grazia Chiuri chose Dubai to show Christian Dior's spring 2019 haute couture collection for a second time, in a circus-themed extravaganza in Dubai’s Safa Park. Part of the collection was originally shown in Paris.

"I think it’s important to travel around the world in order to feel the influence of each place that you’re in," Chiuri told AE World after the show. "It's very different to show in Dubai compared with Paris ... When you are in Dubai you think about colour, not greys so we used a lot more colour in the pieces. We tried to translate the feeling Dubai gives so that it was relevant and had a different attitude to the way we speak in Paris."
