19 January, 2021
Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said over Tuesday (Jan 19) the federal government will extend social distancing measures due to expire this week as metropolis remains on heightened alert following the number of COVID-19 infections climbed back to triple digits.
Lam, speaking in a weekly press briefing, said the federal government would announce details later in the day.
COVID-19 restrictions on the densely populated city add a ban about in-house dining after 6pm and the closure of facilities such as for example gyms, sports venues, beauty salons and cinemas.
The city's government said on Tuesday it'll extend home based arrangements for civil servants until Jan 27.
On Monday, Hong Kong reported 107 new COVID-19 cases, the best number in nearly per month, fuelling concern over a new wave of infections in the town where companies are already reeling from restrictions.
