Huawei’s Watch GT 2E a special avatar for fitness buffs
As China reopens its factories following the coronavirus scourge, the launch of Huawei’s Watch GT 2E piques some interest.

The sporty upgrade to the Huawei Watch GT 2 is targeted especially at fitness buffs, and appears to have preempted Apple’s release of a free of charge fitness app that would sync with the Apple Watch and provide guided workouts.

The Huawei Watch GT 2E comes loaded with 100 workout modes-15 professional types and 85 custom set. While most of the workouts are outdoor-focused rather than intended for the coronavirus lockdown, the Huawei Watch GT 2E is a cool aid to have once things are back to normal and you want to explore the outside, climbing, cycling, hiking swimming, rock climbing or skateboarding.

You can also begin instantly with indoor professional workouts.

Even though you’re at it, your Huawei Watch GT 2E monitors your blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level by using a dedicated IR sensor.

It’s also nice that one could store as much as 500 songs on the Watch GT 2E (it includes a competent 4GB memory to achieve that), and that the wearable device will alert you on incoming calls, SMS messages, emails, and calendar events too, apart from giving you the weather forecast. All these features plus the alarm, timer, flashlight and the find-my-phone features are unchanged from the GT 2.

What’s changed is the design, to match with its sporty avatar. They now include rubber straps. Set to be in stores in Europe the following month, the Huawei Watch GT 2E will be accessible in Black STAINLESS and STAINLESS options for the dial, with straps in Icy White, Lava Red, Mint Green and Graphite Black, at a cost of €199 (Rs 16,500 approximately).

All other tech is similar to the Watch GT 2 launched in September last year - a 1.39 inch AMOLED watch face with a crisp touchscreen, fourteen days of battery life and water resistance up to 50 metres. In addition, it stays with the Kirin A1 chipset.

As the Watch GT 2E has been launched, Huawei hasn't abandoned its earlier avatar. The Watch GT 2 now has been launched in an all new gold variant, with the steel casing of the watch now sporting a gold finish. And when it comes to gold, you gotta pay more. With a white strap, you get the shiny model for €229 (about Rs 19,000), although it will cost you €249 (nearly Rs 21,000) for a red strap.
