Hyundai Averts Strike in Wage Agreement with Union
29 August, 2019
For the first time in eight years, Hyundai has reached a provisional agreement with its labor union on wages without workers staging a walkout.
They reached a deal on Tuesday, the last day of bargaining, amid fears that a strike at this pinched time would hurt the brand's image.
Union workers said they aborted their planned strike to "focus on overcoming social isolation" in view of growing economic difficulties faced by Korea caused by Japan's recent export restrictions in addition to global uncertainties.
