Jane honored for lifetime achievement at Golden Globes
American actor and activist Jane Fonda received an eternity achievement award at the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, marking a career on film and television set and at the forefront of social issues over some 60 years. Fonda, 83, built an impassioned plea for diversity while accepting her award, expressing storytelling was central to mutual individual understanding. Her responses came at a virtual ceremony placed on amid controversy over the dearth of African american users in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hands out the Golden Globes.

"You will find a story we've been afraid to find and hear about ourselves inside our industry, a story about which voices we value and elevate and which we tune away," said Fonda, who accepted her award dressed in a white pantsuit and extended sparkling earrings. "After all, art is definitely not simply in step with history, but has led the way," she said. "So let's be leaders."

Fonda made her specialist debut in 1960 on Broadway and on screen and continued to become one of the primary celebrities of the 1960s and 1970s with films like "Barbarella" and "Klute" and afterwards "On Golden Pond" and "9 to 5." Her most recent appearances have been in the Netflix comedy series "Grace and Frankie" where she and Lily Tomlin play older girls finding new lease of life after divorce.
