Lacked scientific touch, Ole says following the loss to PSG
03 December, 2020
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blamed having less clinical finishing from his strikers for Wednesday's 3-1 Champions Group defeat by Paris St Germain at Out of date Trafford.
Neymar struck twice for PSG even while United wasted several possibilities when the ratings were level at 1-1 after Marcus Rashford's equaliser.
"It was an excellent game which deserved fans. With a little more clinical finishing we have to have finished the game. These were there for the spending," Solskjaer said.
"We'd some big chances. The difference when you get to the big games is the clinical moments," he added.
United's Brazilian midfielder Fred was delivered off in the 70th minute after a first-half reserving for an off the ball head-to-mind clash which had made him a most likely candidate for a halftime substitution.
Solskjaer said he previously considered replacing the Brazilian but felt the dismissal was first harsh.
"Fred has played effectively. We spoke about staying calm and on your feet. The second yellow card was nowhere near a foul. Ander (Herrera) knows that," he stated.
United, PSG and RB Leipzig are actually level on nine items with Solskjaer's side facing a tricky check in Germany on Tuesday.
"The destiny is still in our hands. If we head to Leipzig and succeed the game we get through. You want to be in the Champions League and we have to show that in a few days with an excellent performance," he said.
United captain Harry Maguire felt his team have been unlucky.
"We had better chances. Their two goals happen to be scrappy goals - ricochet and pinball around the container. I look and feel we deserved something," he said.
"You've got to take your chances and not hand out soft goals. But we're still in charge of going right through to the knockout phases."
