Venue: Anfield Stadium

A young Liverpool side marched into the FA Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win over cross-town rivals Everton at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Jurgen Klopp gave a rest to a host of his regulars, but hande new signing Takumi Minamimo his debut while Carlo Ancelotti ran out with his tried and tested crop.

Everton were in for the opener six minutes gone, but Adrian used his feet to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin who went close with a volley after being set up by Theo Walcott on six minutes.

A substitution albeit forced three minutes later from the Reds signalled the end for veteran James Milner with Yasser Larouci replacing the utility player.

Adrian frustrated the Toffees once again with another excellent stop with his feet from Richarlison’s close-range attempt on 28 minutes following a cross from Djibril Sidibe.

Everton’s lively play from the first half carried over right into the second stanza, as Lucas Digne went over the top from a loose ball on the edge of the area following a corner kick.

Neco Williams provided the Reds first sight on goal with a long range shot from the right, but Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford calmly smothered the danger moments later.

However, Liverpool struck gold in the final 20 minutes when Curtis Jones collected a pass from Divock Origi before finding the top corner with a superb strike from distance.

The Toffees looked for the equaliser to take the match into a replay, but their Merseyside neighbours opted otherwise and progressed to the fourth round instead.
