Superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo include paid their respects to Argentina legend Diego Maradona after his untimely passing on Wednesday.

The 1986 FIFA Globe Glass winner only recently turned 60 and has been in the hospital for human brain surgery.

However, his recovery was understood to go well before he passed away on Wednesday immediately after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to various reviews.

Maradona is widely thought to be one of the greatest footballers to have ever graced the overall game, with Messi and Ronaldo often being named found in the same bracket.

Both superstars took Instagram to pay tribute to the Argentina legend, with Messi insisting his former coach is eternal.

"A very sad day time for all Argentines and for soccer," he wrote on Instagram.

"He leaves us but will not leave, because Diego can be eternal.

"I keep all of the beautiful occasions lived with him and I wanted to have the opportunity to send my condolences to all or any his friends and family. RIP"

Ronaldo also paid his respects, calling the 60-year-out of date “an unparalleled magician.

"Today I bid farewell to a pal and the globe says goodbye to an eternal genius. Among the best ever before. An unparalleled magician," the Portuguese wrote. 

"He leaves too early but leaves a good legacy without restrictions and a good void that will under no circumstances be loaded. Rest in peace, ace. You won't ever be forgotten."
