Model behind 'hands off my hijab' content named editor of 'Vogue Scandinavia'
Rawdah Mohamed, a good Somali-Norwegian model who coined the hashtag #handsoffmyhijab earlier this season, has been named style editor of the approaching Vogue Scandinavia.

The model announced the news on social media, stating that she was proud of her new role.

“I’m hoping to be always a cultural force with lots of learning, developing and facing challenges that is included with it,” the model said.

Vogue Scandinavia, the 28th global edition of Vogue, will launch found in August 2021, with the purpose of curating fashion, natural beauty and way of life from Scandinavia and the Nordics. Mohamed’s new purpose will make her the initial hijab-wearing person of color helming the fashion magazine in the west.

Known for her eclectic, colourful design, Mohamed is often experienced mixing streetwear with excessive couture, and possesses collaborated with several big fashion brands during the past.

Lately, she’s as well developed a reputation on her behalf activism. In April 2021, she shared a picture of herself with the words “hands off my hijab” with her 133,000-plus supporters on Instagram, which gone viral, sparking a global outcry, and a tendency on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.

The objective of the hashtag was to protest the proposed French ban on minors wearing the hijab in public areas.

“I strongly believe the only antidote of hate criminal offense is activism. Various governments have been on the wrong part of liberation and equality before. It really is our duty as the persons [to] stand up and fight for every other's rights,” she said.

She also recalled incidents to be bullied in school, with teachers suggesting she stop wearing her hijab as a fix, and being rejected for jobs as a result of her hijab.

“I have lost count of the numerous times I was rejected for employment because of my hijab rather than because of my lack of skill. The countless times French clients show their worries about booking somebody who appears like me while assuring me they happen to be [supportive] of me.

The campaign struck a chord with persons around the world sharing the hashtag in solidarity with Muslim women. To date, the hashtag has been used over 5,000 situations on Instagram, while its French release #pastoucheamonhijab has been posted over a 1000 situations on the social press platform.
