Muller Rescues Victory For Germany
09 October, 2021
Germany 2-1 Romania
Germany came from behind to see off Romania 2-1 to maintain top spot in Group J and their perfect start under Hansi Flick intact.
The visitors stunned the host through Ianis Hagi’s opener, but Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller rescued Die Mannschaft with late efforts to confirm victory.
Latvia 0-1 Netherlands
The Netherlands edged closer to the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals with a 1-0 win over Latvia in a Group G qualifying encounter on Friday.
With Louis Van Gaal in the hot seat, the Dutch maintained top spot in the group with Davy Klaassen getting the winning strike whilst Latvia threatened a comeback but to no avail.
Russia 1-0 Slovakia
Russia maintained their push towards the finals next year with a 1-0 win over Slovakia at the Kazan Arena.
It’s a two straight wins for Russia, which arrived from an own-goal by Milan Skriniar early on in the first half as the victory followed a triumph over Malta last month.
Czech Republic 2-2 Wales
Wales battled to an entertaining 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic at the Eden Arena in a Group E encounter to liven up their qualifying chances.
The Welsh also drew their last match against Estonia and with no Gareth Bale, took the lead through Aaron Ramsey before Jakub Pesek put Czech level.
An own-goal from goalkeeper Danny Ward appeared to lead the host to victory, but Daniel James rose forth to grab the equaliser and in the end a point apiece.
Cyprus 0-3 Croatia
2018 World Cup finalists Croatia extended their lead at the top of Group H following a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Cyprus.
Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic had the Croats ahead before halftime and a penalty-kick from Luka Modric in the second half could’ve added to their tally, but he missed.
However, the Croats still went on to prolong their advantage through centre-back Josko Gvardiol and substitute Marko Livaja.
