Nongshim Posts Record Sales of Prompt Noodles Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

Nongshim raked in over W2 trillion in sales of instant noodles last year, as demand for easy-to-prepare meals has soared amid the coronavirus lockdown (US$1=W1,134).
Its sales of fast noodles amounted to W2.87 trillion in 2020, up 16.3 percent on-year, surpassing the W2 trillion mark for the very first time. Global demand grew sharply, since it saw sales climb in the U.S. by 26.5 percent and in China by 28.2 percent.
Even before the coronavirus pandemic, abroad revenue of its signature Chapagetti and Neoguri were buoyed after a combination of the two was presented in director Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning film "Parasite."
Sales in rivals such as Samyang and Paldo also jumped through the same period.
Samyang posted W591.1 billion in product sales of fast noodles and Paldo W297.1 billion, up 20.9 percent and 9.2 percent on-year.
