Malaysian Primary Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will have the COVID-19 vaccine alongside frontliners on Feb 26, the initial day of the implementation of the national COVID-19 immunisation programme.

Mr Muhyiddin produced the announcement throughout a television set address on Tuesday (Feb 16) morning, where he as well launched the programme's handbook, a reference information for everyone. 

"The publication of the book is timely for the reason that country will before long receive the first delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines," he explained.

"I am very happy to announce that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines will arrive in Malaysia on Feb 21, 2021. Furthermore, the roll-out implementation of the countrywide COVID-19 immunisation system will start on Feb 26, 2021, when I will have the vaccine alongside frontline officers," he added. 

Mr Muhyiddin as well outlined that the program will be rolled out in three phases. 

The first phase, that will involve frontline staff, will take place from Feb 26 until April. That is likely to encompass around 500,000 people. 

The second phase, that involves high risk groups like the elderly and those suffering from chronic conditions, is slated for April until August. That is set to include around 9.4 million persons. 

Meanwhile, the 3rd phase, for parents aged 18 and previously mentioned, will take place from May until February 2022. That is set to add at least 13.7 million people.

The situation has improved recently. On Mon, Malaysia recorded 2,176 new COVID-19 cases, the cheapest number of daily attacks recorded in the past 30 days.

Up to now, Malaysia has reported a cumulative tally of 266,445 attacks and 975 deaths.

There are 47,135 active cases, with 260 patients in intensive care and 112 people requiring ventilator support.
