Walmart-backed Flipkart in Tuesday said it features introduced Tone of voice Assistant capability on its platform to create it easier for buyers to shop found on its platform. Introduced in Flipkart's supermarket, 'Supermart', the Tone of voice Assistant will enable buyers to discover and buy products using tone of voice commands in multiple languages, you start with Hindi and English.

The voice-first conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform has been built by Flipkart's in-house technology team with solutions for speech recognition, natural terminology understanding, machine translation, and text to speech for Indian languages, a statement said.

These solutions can handle understanding vernacular languages such as Hindi, e-commerce categories and products, and tasks such as for example searching for something, understanding product details, placing an order, etc, it added.

The Voice Assistant for grocery is currently open to all English and Hindi users using Flipkart's mobile software on android products and will be gradually offered on iOS and the website.

The indigenously produced AI platform is built to automatically find the language spoken by an individual, and in real-time transcribe, translate, transliterate and understand the user's shopping-related queries in various Indian languages, the business said.

Flipkart said it had undertaken an in depth ethnographic study for more than five months in multiple towns and towns to gather insights and opportunities that resulted in the production of the tone of voice assistant for grocery.

"The study brought forward interesting insights from users attempting to do a selection of tasks using tone of voice while seeking convenient accessibility of services. Subsequently, Flipkart believes its Voice Assistant will elevate the user's food shopping to a far more personal and natural knowledge," it added.

"As a homegrown e-commerce firm, Flipkart has been at the forefront of creating India-first innovations and video recording, vernacular and tone of voice have been the main element pillars of solving for the adoption of e-commerce in India. While we have seen wonderful adoption for our training video and vernacular offerings, the next phase in that way is to resolve for the voice capacity for e-commerce," Flipkart Chief Merchandise and Technology Officer Jeyandran Venugopal said.

He added the technology team at Flipkart travelled in the united states to understand the many contours of creating a voice capacity and fine-tuned it to recognize and respond to the different variations found in Indian languages.

Manish Kumar, SVP Grocery and Basic Merchandise & Furniture at Flipkart, said grocery is probably the most underpenetrated classes on Indian e-commerce and has a enormous potential to grow.
